Step by Step Look at Prepping Your Land for a Driveway

From demolishing your old driveway to preparing raw land, we have you covered. You can count on us for grading and sloping the land and building up the sub base to create a wonderfully smooth surface for your new hardscape.

Step 1: Demolition and Removal

It takes heavy machinery to remove existing surfaces to create a smooth base. Our team includes heavy equipment operators who will remove and recycle old concrete and asphalt.

Step 2: Grading and Sloping

Using automatic motor graders and laser-guided transits, we leave behind a graded and sloped surface. At this stage, we also prepare the land for proper water drainage. This is essential to prevent cracks and other damage due to saturation.

Step 3: Prepare the Sub Base

Before you can pour concrete or install asphalt pavement, you need a proper sub base. This creates firm support for new payment. Adding a frost barrier interrupts the freezing and thawing cycle, reducing winter damage. Additionally, our experienced crew will inspect each section for consistent thickness, compaction and stability.

Step 4: Proof Roll, Undercutting and Sub Base Repair

At this stage, we test the underlying surface to ensure that it's ready to support a new driveway. Our crew will repair soft areas with undercutting and other techniques to strengthen the entire sub base. This step also includes mixing in additional aggregate with the soil and clay for added strength and durability.

Step 5: Binder and Surface Course

Finally, a large aggregate and oil binder completes the sub base. At this point, you're ready to pave your new driveway.
